Always a tough par 4, this dogleg right hole has been lengthened over the years and made it increasingly a tougher hole. From the back the ideal line is tight to the trees on the right and preferably over the corner but on the fly this is a 222 yard hit but to clear the height of the increasing tree growth requires a longer higher shot that is increasingly not feasible. Other options are a huge cut with a driver (risky if it stays straight and you run out of fairway) or what some prefer is a 2 iron to the corner of the dog leg. This leaves you in play but with almost a longer 2nd shot than you have hit off the tee. In Theydon medals, if 80 play this hole there will be only 5 pars or better. This is a Theydon “survival hole” and 5 or even 6 is no disaster.
